Uday, That Toronto Star article is depressing. It does summarize the issues that are not unknown to us, but that article delivers the punch in the solar plexus.

Yes, paraphrasing Nandan Nilekani, "India as a picture looks pretty from a distance, with high levels of growth and all. As you draw closer, the imperfections start getting starker and all of a sudden the picture is very ugly."
ReplyDeleteIgnoring the 8 percent GDP growth, most human development indicators- child malnutrition, poverty, education levels, sanitation to just name a few are rather awful. It will take multiple decades of double digit equitable growth to solve these basic problems.That is the very picture the article paints.
